You’ll need your checking account and routing number to pay from your bank account. Or, eligible customers can pay with a Visa, Mastercard or Discover credit or debit card.

- I can set up automatic monthly payments (autopay)
- I can view payment history and manage my account online
DTE also offers a guest pay option that lets you pay another customer’s bill without logging in. You just need their name, address or account number.
DTE Energy Mobile App
Like online bill pay, the DTE Energy app makes paying your bill quick and easy. I can pay in just 3 taps using my iPhone.
The app allows you to:
- View your current bill and compare to previous bills
- Pay using your bank account, or credit/debit card if eligible
- Use guest pay to cover someone else’s bill
- Enroll in paperless billing and autopay
I prefer the app over logging into the website when I’m on the go. It’s easy to pull up and pay my bill anytime, anywhere.
In-Person Bill Pay
If you prefer to pay your DTE bill in person, you have several options:
DTE Bill Payment Kiosks
Over 300 payment kiosks are located across DTE’s service area. They accept cash, checks, or credit/debit cards. You can view your balance without an account number. Payments are applied same-day.
I’ve used the kiosks at my local Kroger. They are quick, accept multiple payment types, and I get a receipt.
Authorized Pay Agents
Hundreds of authorized retail locations accept DTE bill payments. Look for the DTE Energy logo. Payments go to your account by the end of the day. Some agents charge a small fee.
By Mail
Mail your payment coupon and check or money order in the return envelope provided with your monthly bill. Allow 5 days for delivery to ensure it’s processed by the due date. Do not mail cash.
I mail my payment when I don’t have checks on hand and can’t make it to a kiosk or pay agent. Just be sure to give enough time for mail delivery.
Pay by Phone
Call 1-800-477-4747 to use DTE’s automated phone payment system. It’s available 24/7.
You can pay with your checking account or credit/debit card if eligible. Have your account number and payment details handy.
Phone payments are free and quick – takes me less than 5 minutes. It’s handy when I’m in a rush and don’t have time to login and pay online.
When is my DTE Bill Due?
DTE Energy bills are due 21 days after you receive it. You can find your due date printed on your monthly statement.
I recommend paying a few days before the due date to ensure your payment processes on time. Late payments incur a 1.5% penalty.
Can I Change my DTE Due Date?
Yes, with DTE’s Flexible Due Date program you can choose a due date that aligns better with your pay schedule. Eligible residential customers can select any due date between the 1st and 28th of the month.

What Happens if I Miss my DTE Due Date?
If you miss the due date, a 1.5% late fee is assessed on the unpaid balance. DTE will send a shutoff notice stating the date your service could be interrupted.
To avoid fees and potential shutoff, pay your bill immediately if you miss the due date. You can call DTE at 1-800-477-4747 to discuss a payment plan if you cannot pay the full amount.
I try not to miss due dates, but stuff happens. DTE has payment plans to help if you get behind. Just reach out to them as soon as possible.

The DTE payment kiosks are conveniently located in local businesses where customers frequently visit, including grocery and convenience stores.
To identify retail partners that would provide customers with a comfortable and secure place to pay their bills, CityBase analyzed customer payment trends to pinpoint the neighborhoods where kiosks would be most beneficial to customers. Many of these locations had high volumes of cash-paying customers, who may not have alternative means to pay online via card or bank account.
CityBase recruited interested businesses to apply as an Authorized DTE Kiosk Payment Center. They then conducted site visits to finalize the optimal kiosk locations. Selected businesses only needed a dedicated power outlet and 5’x5’ space in order to accommodate the new payment kiosks.
In total, 33 retail locations house the 43 payment kiosks. The authorized retail kiosk payment centers benefit from increased foot traffic and return customers who pay their utility bill on the kiosk and continue shopping.
DTE customers benefit from extended business hours, convenient locations in their own neighborhoods, and safe and familiar settings where they can comfortably pay their important bills.
One retail hub for the new DTE payment kiosks is Prince Valley Market, 5931 Michigan Avenue, Detroit, MI 48210.
The local market houses three DTE kiosks for customers to pay their utility bills, as well as additional services such as a post office, Vigo – Western Union, check cashing services, and an in-house bakery and kitchen.
“The kiosk terminals are a great system to have in house for our customer base. This is exactly right up their alley,” said Joe Gappy, President of Prince Valley Markets. “We’re very unique in what we offer. Providing all these services helps us grow.”
“Many customers will come to use the kiosk and continue shopping,” Gappy continued. “The wave of the future is kiosks. Customers aren’t going to waste their time going from utility to utility to pay bills. For people who don’t have banking or checking accounts, this is the way to go. Consumers already know how to use the technology. We also offer bill payment services at our window, but you have to pay a fee because of our labor costs. Most people prefer to pay at a free kiosk terminal.”
