If you live in the Charleston, West Virginia area, chances are you receive wastewater services from the Charleston Sanitary Board (CSB) Paying your CSB bill quickly and easily each month is important In this article, I’ll overview the different ways Charleston Sanitary Board customers can pay their bill online or through other convenient options.
As a Charleston resident and CSB customer for 5+ years I’ve tried every payment method they offer. I’ll share my experiences with each to help you choose the best bill pay option for your needs.
About the Charleston Sanitary Board
First, a quick background on the Charleston Sanitary Board for those unfamiliar with the utility. CSB is the municipal sewer utility serving Charleston and surrounding parts of Kanawha County, West Virginia.
They provide wastewater services for around 23,000 customers in the area. CSB owns and maintains 300+ miles of sewer lines, 84 pumping stations, and a 14 million gallon per day wastewater treatment plant.
Pay Online Through CSB Website
The Charleston Sanitary Board website now offers an online account management system for bill pay. You can sign up on their website to view your balance and pay online.
To enroll in online account access, go to CSB’s website and click on “Online Account Management.” This will direct you to the secure online payment portal.
Register your account with your CSB account number, email address, and create a password. Once registered, you can log in anytime to view your current balance and payment history.
To pay your bill, just input your bank account or card information. There is a small $4.95 processing fee per transaction. But the convenience of paying online is worth it to me.
Pay by Phone
Another way Charleston Sanitary Board allows customers to pay is through their automated pay-by-phone system.
To use the CSB phone payment option, call 877-358-6792. The interactive voice response system will guide you through the process.
You’ll need to input your CSB account number and current balance due. Payments can be made securely over the phone using your bank account or credit/debit card.
Like online payments, there is a $4.95 convenience fee to use the automated phone system. But it lets you take care of your bill without leaving home.
Pay In Person at CSB Office
For customers who prefer to pay their CSB bill in person, you can visit the Charleston Sanitary Board office located at:
208 26th St W
Charleston, WV 25387
The CSB office is open Monday through Friday from 8AM to 5PM for bill payments. You can pay by cash, check, money order, or credit/debit card.
One advantage of paying at the office is you receive instant payment confirmation. Although keep in mind, there may be longer wait times depending on how busy they are.
Set Up AutoPay Through Your Bank
Rather than manually paying each month, you can enroll in auto-payments through your bank. This automatically deducts your CSB bill from your account on the due date monthly.
To set up CSB autopay, contact your bank to establish the Charleston Sanitary Board as a payee. Provide your CSB account number and monthly payment amount.
Going forward, the funds will be withdrawn from your account automatically on the due date. Just be sure to monitor your bank account balance to ensure enough funds are available when the autopay transaction hits.
Avoid Late Fees
To avoid late fees from the Charleston Sanitary Board, I recommend paying your bill as soon as you receive it. CSB charges a 10% penalty if your payment is not received by the due date.
Regularly monitoring your account balance online helps you stay on top of your bill. Pay online or through autopay immediately once your new statement generates. Don’t wait until the due date to pay!
But in-person payments or setting up autopay through your bank also allows you to quickly take care of your CSB bill each month. Use the tips above to choose the right payment method for your needs and avoid any late penalties!
ServicesThe CSB administers a pre-treatment program for industrial customers and a grease-trap program for customers with non-domestic food preparation. These programs are administered in accordance with Charleston Ordinances and federal and state regulations. The CSB also reviews and approves building permit applications and subdivision plans prior to construction and installs taps for new customers.
