The City of Santa Fe gives the people of the area water, sewer, trash collection, and other important services. When you pay your utility bill on time, you avoid late fees and service interruptions while also funding these important services. Luckily, Santa Fe offers residents multiple convenient ways to pay city utility bills.
Overview of City of Santa Fe Utility Billing
The City of Santa Fe Utility Billing Division is in charge of billing and collecting payments from people and businesses in Santa Fe for water, sewer, stormwater, and trash services.
Utility bills are issued monthly and include charges for that month’s services. Bills are usually sent out in the last week of the month, giving customers time to pay before the 20th of the following month, which is when they are due.
In addition to the volume-based water usage fee, City of Santa Fe utility bills include:
- Base fee for water service
- Sewer service fee
- Stormwater management fee
- Monthly trash and recycling collection fee
There are several payment options available to conveniently pay your City of Santa Fe utility bill each month.
Ways to Pay Your Santa Fe Utility Bill
The City of Santa Fe offers various bill payment methods to fit every customer’s needs:
Pay Online
The fastest and most convenient way to pay is online through the City of Santa Fe online bill pay system. To get started, you’ll first need to create an online account.
Visit www.santafenm.gov and click on the “Pay My Bill Online” link. This will direct you to the account login page. Click on the “Register for an Account” link and provide your account information to create your online profile.
Once your account is created, you can log in anytime to view your balance and make secure online payments by credit/debit card or e-check. You can opt for one-time payments or set up recurring auto-pay.
Pay by Phone
Call the City of Santa Fe Utility Billing Division at 505-955-4333 to pay your utility bill over the phone You will need to provide your account number and billing details
Phone payments can be made by credit/debit card or e-check. A small processing fee applies to phone payments.
Pay by Mail
Utility bills include a payment stub and mailing address for sending payments by mail. Detach the stub write in the payment amount, and mail with a check or money order. Allow 5-7 days for delivery.
Pay in Person
Bring your utility bill and payment to the Utility Billing office located at 801 W. San Mateo Road in Santa Fe. Payments can be made in person Monday-Friday from 8am-4:30pm, excluding holidays. Cash, check, money order or card accepted.
PayNearMe
The City has partnered with PayNearMe to allow cash payments at any participating retail location. Bring your bill to 7-Eleven, Casey’s, CVS Pharmacy or Family Dollar stores to pay in cash.
AutoPay
Forget late payments! Enroll in AutoPay to have your bill paid automatically each month on the due date by direct debit from your bank account. Download the direct debit form online and submit with a voided check.
Payment Assistance Programs
Santa Fe offers payment assistance programs to help qualified low-income residents pay their utility bills, including:
- Low-income bill discount
- Leak adjustment credits
- HEART ordinance protection from winter shutoffs
- LIHEAP federal heating assistance

Avoid Late Fees and Service Disruption
Utility bills are due by the 20th of each month. A late fee of 10% is applied to past due balances. Failure to pay may result in water service shutoff.

- Pay online through our payment portal.
- We accept Money Orders and checks at the Public Works facility (424 NM 599) from 8 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday except Santa Fe County holidays.
- The Payment Drop Box is available at the Public Works facility 24 hours per day, 7 days a week. The Payment Drop Box is located in the front entrance by the fuel pumps.
- Customers may mail in their checks or money orders to: P.O. Box 276, Santa Fe, NM 87504.
- Customers can choose to have their monthly bills debited from their bank accounts. Please fill out the form below and return it to Public Utilities.
Commercial and Residential Water and Wastewater Service Rates
On June 12, 2018, the Santa County Board of County Commissioners approved new rates for water and wastewater services. Please see Ordinances 2018-3 and 2018-4 or rate sheet summary for the new rates which will become effective July 13, 2018.
