Consider Irrigation Service Needs

If you have a residential irrigation system, there are seasonal considerations for your water service:

  • In spring, irrigation water service resumes the week of April 15th when the city reconnects and charges for irrigation water usage. Have your backflow device inspected and certified by the health department beforehand.

  • In fall, irrigation service is shut off and disconnected the week of October 21st for winter. The city can accommodate individual shutoff dates for a $25 fee.

Avoid Late Fees and Service Disruption

To avoid penalties, make sure your water bill payment reaches the City of Troy by the 15th of each month. Late fees are 10% of your bill’s past due amount.

If your account becomes delinquent for nonpayment, the city will issue a shutoff notice and assess a $25 processing fee. Shutoffs occur if payment is not received by the shutoff date. To resume service, you must pay the past due amount in full plus a $25 turn-on fee.

Payment Assistance and Leak Adjustments

If you are struggling to pay your water bill, the City of Troy partners with Michigan-based TrueNorth Community Services to provide emergency utility bill payment assistance. Contact TrueNorth or the Billing Department to learn more about qualification requirements.

For unusually high water bills caused by leaks, you can request a leak adjustment providing you meet certain criteria. This reduces sewer charges on the excess water leakage but does not adjust actual water usage fees. Again, contact the Billing Department for full details.

Communication is Key

If you have questions about your water bill or are unable to pay on time, communication is vital. Contact the Troy Billing and Collection Department as early as possible to discuss your situation and options. This can help avoid punitive action. The city aims to provide quality utility services to all citizens in an understanding and fiscally responsible manner.

Be sure to keep your contact information up to date with the city, so they can reach you about any billing issues. Update your phone number, email, and mailing address if anything changes. Also inform the city if you are moving or transferring service to a new account holder at your address.
