Paying your utilities bill can be a hassle – searching for the right website, entering account numbers, choosing payment options. But it doesn’t have to be with the online bill pay options from Harnett County Utilities. As a Harnett County resident, I’ve used these services for years and want to share just how easy they make paying your water, sewer and other utility bills.
Getting Started with Online Bill Pay
The first step is to go to https://paylink.harnett.org/pay-my-bill. This is the payment portal for Harnett County utility bills.
You’ll need to enter your 6-digit customer number and 6-digit account number when you get to the page. These are easily found on your paper utility bill. Your number doesn’t have 6 digits? Just add 0s to the beginning of it until it does.
For example, if your customer number is 1234, you would enter 001234
Enter the numbers, then click “Pay Bills.” This will take you to the payment screens.
Payment Options
You have two options for paying your Harnett County utility bill online:
-
Credit Card: Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover are just a few of the major cards that can be used. You’ll enter your card number, expiration date and CVV code.
-
eCheck – This allows you to pay directly from your bank account by entering your routing and account number No credit card required
Both options are secure and take just a minute or two to complete.
After entering your payment info, click “Pay Bills” again on the final screen. That’s all there is to it!
Payment Confirmation
Once your payment goes through, you’ll see a confirmation page. Be sure to print or screenshot this for your records.
You’ll also get an email confirmation sent to the address used when setting up your online account.
Setting Up an Account
While you can pay as a guest, I highly recommend setting up an online account with Harnett County Utilities.
This allows you to:
- Store payment information for faster checkout
- View payment history and billing statements
- Sign up for paperless billing
- Set up automatic payments
To create an account, click “Register Now” on the login page. You’ll need your account number, email address, and name as it appears on your bill.
After registering, you can manage all account services by clicking “Login to My Account”.
Managing Your Account
Under the “My Account” section you can:
- Update contact information and passwords
- Set up recurring payments

This makes managing your utility account much easier than calling customer service or mailing in requests.
Accessing Account on Mobile
The Harnett County Utilities payment portal is mobile-friendly, so you can pay bills and manage your account from your smartphone.
Just navigate to https://paylink.harnett.org/pay-my-bill on your phone’s browser. The site automatically optimizes for mobile screens.
You can even add the page to your home screen for quick access, just like an app.
Customer Service Still Available
While the online options are convenient, you can still call 910-893-7575 or email [email protected] to speak with a customer service rep about your utility account.
They are available Monday-Friday from 8am to 4:30pm if you have any questions or issues with your bill.
Reviewing Your Usage
In addition to paying your bill online, you can also monitor your monthly water usage through the Harnett County Utilities customer portal.
Under the “My Usage” section, you can view:
- Current usage for the month
- Usage history by month
- Average daily use
This allows you to track water usage over time and spot any spikes that may indicate leaks or other issues.
Monitoring usage can also help with budgeting and conservation efforts. You can see the impact of changes like installing low-flow fixtures or adjusting irrigation schedules.
Paperless Billing
Tired of clutter from paper bills and reminders? Go paperless with Harnett County Utilities.
In the “My Profile” section of your online account, you can opt to receive bills electronically rather than by mail.
You’ll get a monthly email when your new bill is ready to view. Click the link and you can see the PDF bill, same as the mailed version.
Going paperless saves paper and clutter, plus gets bills to you faster than postal mail. You can always print copies if needed.
Auto Pay
Forget late fees and mailing delays – set up automatic payments through Harnett County Utilities online bill pay.
Under “My Profile”, you can schedule recurring payments from a credit card or bank account.
On the due date each month, your bill will be automatically paid for you. You’ll still receive an email with the amount and receipt.
