Avoid Late Fees with On-Time Payment

When you receive your HES bill, your payment will be due by the date listed. Be sure to pay the Total Due amount before the due date to avoid any late fees.

Here are some tips to help make sure your payment arrives on time every month:

  • For online payments, schedule the payment at least 5 days before your due date. This allows time for processing and posting to your account.

  • If paying by mail, drop your payment in the mailbox 7-10 days before it’s due. Payments must be received (not postmarked) by your due date. Allow time for delivery.

  • If paying in person, go a few days early in case of unforeseen delays or issues. Don’t wait until the due date.

  • Sign up for email or text alerts through SmartHub to be notified immediately when your bill is ready.

  • Mark your due date on your calendar so it doesn’t creep up on you.

Avoiding late fees is easy with proactive planning. Get in the habit of paying a bit early and utilizing payment reminders through SmartHub. This will help ensure your payment arrives on time, every time.

Seek Bill Payment Assistance if Needed

Between inflation, rising energy costs, and other factors, some months can be tougher than others financially. If you anticipate having trouble paying your HES bill, don’t wait – be proactive. HES offers programs and resources that may be able to help.

HES allows you to set up payment arrangements if you cannot pay your full balance. This lets you break your outstanding balance into smaller, more manageable payments over time.

Budget billing takes your average monthly bill amount (based on your usage over the past 12 months) and sets this as your monthly payment amount. The advantage is that you know exactly what you’re going to pay for your electric bill every month.

  • By equalizing your payments, you avoid the seasonal peaks associated with heating and cooling months.
  • Your average billing amount is reviewed and adjusted each year.
  • Participation requires a 12-month continuous use history.

Sign up by calling UEC’s Hermiston or Boardman offices.

When you sign up for Schedule Pay, the amount of your monthly bill is withdrawn from the account you specify, checking/savings or use a credit/debit card. You don’t have to write a check or go out to pay your bill.

By default, payments are withdrawn on the due date reflected on your bill. If you’d like to move that date, we may be able to move your billing to a different payment cycle, depending on the date each month when your income makes it easiest to pay.

Call UEC’s Hermiston or Boardman office for help signing up.

NOTE: If you are already registered for SmartHub, you will need to re-register in SmartHub after signing up for Schedule Pay. Our team can help walk you through the process.
