Paying your credit card bill on time each month is crucial for maintaining a good credit score and avoiding late fees. If you have an HSBC credit card paying your bill is easy if you follow these simple steps.
Having good credit is important for getting loans, mortgages rental agreements and more. Your payment history makes up a significant portion of your credit score, so paying all your bills on time is essential. HSBC offers several credit cards, including Mastercard, Visa, American Express, and private label retail cards.
I’ll walk you through how to pay your HSBC credit card bill quickly and easily online. We’ll cover logging in, locating your account, making a one-time payment, setting up autopay, checking payment status, and more. Following these steps each month will help ensure your payment posts on time.
Prerequisites
Before you can pay your HSBC credit card bill online, make sure you have:
- An HSBC credit card account number
- Access to HSBC Personal Internet Banking
- Your account username and password
- Payment method added (checking/savings account or another credit card)
If you don’t have online banking access, you can call the number on the back of your credit card to make a payment. But setting up online access makes paying your bill faster each month.
Step 1: Log In to HSBC Personal Internet Banking
To start, navigate to www.hsbc.com and click “Log On” in the top right corner. This will bring you to the login page for HSBC Personal Internet Banking.
Enter your username and password and click “Log On.” If you’ve forgotten your username or password you can click the links to recover them.
Once logged in, you’ll be brought to your Personal Internet Banking account homepage. This displays your accounts, Balance Summary, Activity Center, and more.
Step 2: Select Your Credit Card Account
On the homepage, scroll down and locate your HSBC credit card account under “My Accounts.” Click on the name of your specific credit card account to open it.
For example, if you have an HSBC Premier World Mastercard, click on “Premier World Mastercard” to access that account.
Step 3: Click on Manage Account
With your HSBC credit card account open, look on the right side of the screen and click the blue “Manage Account” button. This will open your account management page.
Here you can view your balance, available credit, recent activity, statements, and more. To pay your bill, click on “Make a payment” under the Quick Links menu.
Step 4: Choose Make a Payment
When you click “Make a payment,” a drop-down menu will appear. Click on “Payments” in this menu.
This will bring you to the payments page for your credit card account. Here you can make one-time payments, set up recurring autopay, and view payment history.
Step 5: Enter Payment Details
On the payments page, fill in all the required details:
- Payment Amount – Enter the amount you wish to pay. You can pay your full balance, minimum due, or another amount.
- Process Date – Choose the date you want your payment to process. Pay attention to cutoff times.
- Payment Method – Select whether to debit your checking account, savings account, or another credit card.
Once all required fields are filled in, click “Continue.”
Step 6: Review and Submit Payment
On the next page, review all the payment details carefully to make sure they are correct. Then check the box to agree to the terms and conditions.
When you’re ready, click “Submit Payment” to complete the process. You’ll see a confirmation page that your payment was submitted successfully.
Other Useful Options
In addition to making one-time payments, the payments page offers other useful options:
- Autopay – You can set up recurring autopay for your full or minimum monthly payment to be deducted automatically each billing cycle. Just specify the date and payment method.
- View History – See your past 6 months of payment history including amount, date paid, and status.
- Export – Download your history into an Excel spreadsheet or PDF.
Using these features makes managing your account payments even easier.
Payment Status and Receipt
After submitting your payment, it takes 1-2 business days to process. You can check the status in your Activity Center.
Once processed, the payment will display as “Posted” and you can view your receipt. Your account balance will update accordingly.
You’ll also receive an email confirmation when your payment is submitted and processed. Just save these for your records.
Set Up Account Alerts
For extra convenience, HSBC allows you to set up account alerts. You can have email or text notifications sent when:
- Your bill is ready
- Your payment is due
- Your payment is processed
- Your balance reaches a certain amount
Just click “Alerts” on your account page to establish alerts. Then you don’t need to log in as frequently to check status.
Autopay Overdraft Protection
If you set up autopay from your HSBC checking account, you can add overdraft protection. This links your credit card to your checking account.
If there aren’t sufficient funds when your autopay processes, HSBC will advance the amount needed to make your credit card payment. This prevents late fees and damage to your credit.
Overdraft protection ensures your payment goes through each month, even if you forget to transfer funds. Just be sure to deposit enough to cover the overdraft shortly after.
