Reminder: New Sewer Rates Effective April 1, 2024

Per City Council Resolution 21-044, the Residential Sewer Fixed Rate and the Commercial Sewer Usage charge will increase on April 1st of each year, through 2025. These increases are necessary to cover the increased sewer system costs, including repairs, improvements and other ongoing costs of operation and maintenance.

Monthly sewer bills for single-family residential customers (those with 1 to 4 dwelling units) will be a combination of a fixed charge and a usage charge noted in the table below. Usage charge is based on the Winter Water Use.

Residential:

April 1, 2023

April 1, 2024

Fixed Monthly Charge $19.93 $24.60
Usage Charge ($/HCF) $7.80 $7.80

Sewer rates for single family homes (1-4 units) are based on the average of the metered water usage from on or around December 20th through February 20th each year for the three (3) previous years divided by six. For new service accounts, the first three year’s Winter Water Use shall be set to 6 HCF/month. Under no circumstance shall a customer’s Winter Water Use be less than 2 HCF/month.

This will establish the maximum sewer charge for the 12-month period beginning April 2024 through March 2025 billing period. If actual water usage is less than the average winter water usage during the year, the charge will be based on the actual water usage.

For multi-family homes (5+ dwelling units) and commercial establishments, monthly sewer bills are based on metered monthly water use multiplied by the usage charge shown in the chart below, or $24.60, whichever is greater.

Commercial:

April 1, 2023

April 1, 2024

Usage Charge ($/HCF) $11.27 $12.18

Multi-family homes and commercial establishments are not typically subject to the average winter water usage calculation, as the sewer charges are based on all monthly water usage.
