Paying your monthly electricity bill can feel like a chore – who wants to log in and hand over their hard-earned money? But paying your New River Light And Power (NRLP) bill doesn’t have to be a hassle. With NRLP’s convenient online and in-person payment options, you can pay your bill quickly and easily each month.
As a NRLP customer myself, I have tried every payment method they offer In this article, I’ll go through the various ways to pay your NRLP bill and provide tips to make bill pay as simple and stress-free as possible
Online Bill Pay
The easiest way to pay your NRLP bill is through their online payment portal. You can either pay as a guest or register your account to access even more features. Here’s an overview of the online payment options:
Pay as a Guest
It’s possible to pay as a guest without making an account if you only need to make a one-time payment. To do this, go to the NRLP website, click “Pay Bill/Account Login” at the top, and then pick “Pay as Guest.” ”.
You’ll need your account number and the amount due. Make sure it’s the full amount – partial payments often incur late fees. Let them know how you paid and your email address so they can send you a receipt. And that’s it! The whole process takes less than 5 minutes.
Register Your Account
I recommend registering an online account with NRLP It only takes a few minutes to sign up The benefits are that you can
- Access online account management
- Check your current balance
- View payment history
- Set up autopay
- Go paperless with e-bills
- Monitor your energy usage
Log in to your pay bill account by clicking “New Customer? Register Account” on the pay bill page. ” Follow the prompts to create your username and password.
With an account, you can log in anytime and pay your bill with just a couple clicks. It’s fast, easy, and secure.
Pay by Phone
You can also pay over the phone using NRLP’s automated payment system. Call 828-262-5200 and select the pay by phone option.
The system will guide you through the process step-by-step. Have your account number, amount due, and a pen ready to jot down the confirmation number. You can pay by credit/debit card or electronic check. The $1.95 fee per transaction is a bit of a drawback in my opinion.
The phone system is available 24/7. It’s handy if you’ve missed the due date and need to make a last minute payment. But overall, the online options are quicker and cheaper.
Pay by Mail
If you prefer to mail in a payment, you can send a check or money order to:
New River Light and Power
PO Box 1130
Boone, NC 28607
Make sure it arrives by the due date to avoid late fees. Since it takes a few days to process mail payments, I recommend sending it at least 5 business days before your due date.
One caveat is that NRLP does not accept mailed cash payments. And you don’t get payment confirmation like with the online and phone options. So mailing a paper check isn’t the most convenient method.
Pay In Person
You can pay your NRLP bill in person at one of their authorized payment locations in the Boone, NC area. They partner with local businesses that accept payments on NRLP’s behalf.
Some in-person payment options include:
- Watauga County Admin Building
- Boone Walmart customer service desk
- High Country Food Co-Op
- Mast General Store
- Many local banks
Most locations accept cash, check, credit/debit and money orders. NRLP’s website has a full list of authorized pay stations around Boone.
The benefit of paying in person is getting same day payment confirmation with a receipt. The downside is having to travel to a pay station each month.
Tips for Stress-Free Bill Pay
Here are my top tips for making monthly NRLP bill payment a breeze:
-
Sign up for paperless billing – You’ll get email alerts when your bill is ready and avoid mail delays.
-
Set payment reminders – Mark your calendar or set phone alerts for a few days before the due date.
-
Enroll in autopay – Set it and forget it! Autopay deducts your bill from your bank account each month.
-
Take advantage of budget billing – Get the same bill amount each month to make budgeting easier.
-
Monitor your usage – See how much power you use to identify savings opportunities.
-
Go on vacation hold – Temporarily stop service when you’re away to avoid paying for unused power.
-
Check for payment assistance – Ask about hardship or flexible payment programs if you need help.
