How to Pay Your Weakley County Electric Bill: A Quick and Easy Guide

As a longtime resident of Weakley County, paying my monthly electric bill to Weakley County Municipal Electric System (WCMES) is a routine part of life. Over the years, I’ve paid my bill in just about every way possible – in person, by mail, automatic bank draft, etc. Nowadays, I exclusively use the WCMES online payment system because of the convenience and ease.

In this article, I’ll walk through the various ways you can pay an electric bill to WCMES if you live in Weakley County. I’ll also provide tips to make sure your payments are on time each month. Whether you prefer online, in-person, or mail-in payments, WCMES offers flexible options to fit every customer’s needs.

The Easiest Option Pay Online

Hands down, the quickest and most convenient way to pay a Weakley County electric bill is through the WCMES online payment portal. To start, you’ll need to go to www.wcmes.com and click on “Pay My Bill” at the top of the homepage. From there, you can either login to an existing account or register for a new account.

To register, you’ll need your 12-digit WCMES account number and some basic contact information. Once your account is created, you can securely store payment information to use for future bills. I like to set up automatic monthly payments so I never have to think about my electric bill – it just gets paid automatically on the due date each month.

The WCMES online payment system accepts e-checks (direct bank account withdrawals) and all major credit/debit cards. There is no fee for e-check payments, which is what I normally use. The site also lets you view payment history and set text/email reminders for upcoming bills.

Paying online takes me less than a minute each month. I just log in, review my bill and submit payment. It’s fast easy, and much more reliable than mailing in a check.

Pay by Phone

If you prefer to talk to a real person, WCMES offers a toll-free automated phone payment system. To use this option, call 1-888-643-1082 and follow the prompts to make a payment. You’ll need to enter your account number and payment info.

One thing to note – phone payments have a small convenience fee added based on the payment amount. I believe it’s around $3 for a typical residential bill. Still very convenient, just something to be aware of.

In-Person Payment Locations

For those who like the old school way of paying bills in person, WCMES has set up payment kiosks around Weakley County:

• Gleason City Hall – 101 College St
• Sharon City Hall – 5320 S Hwy Ave
• Security Bank in Fulton – One Bankers Plaza

You can walk into any of these locations and pay your electric bill with cash, check, or money order. Most are open Monday-Friday during regular business hours, but I’d call ahead to confirm. The county courthouses may also accept electric bill payments.

Paying by Mail

Lastly, you can still mail in a payment the traditional way. Just send a check or money order to WCMES at 11181 Hwy 22, Martin, TN 38237. Make sure to include your remittance stub from your monthly bill.

I recommend mailing your payment at least 7-10 days before the due date to ensure it arrives on time. The official postmark date will be used to determine if payment is on time. Late payments get a penalty fee added.

Set Up Automatic Bank Draft

If you already have WCMES set up for automatic bank drafts from your checking account each month, then paying your bill is a breeze – it happens automatically with no effort on your part.

To enroll in bank draft payments, just stop by the WCMES office in Martin and fill out a quick authorization form. You’ll need to provide a voided check. Drafts will then be pulled from your bank account for the amount due on each bill.

Make sure to closely monitor your bank account balance and statements when using bank drafts. You don’t want any surprise overdraft fees if funds aren’t available on draft day.

Avoid Late Fees and Disconnection

However you choose to pay, the key is making sure your electric bill gets paid before the due date each month. WCMES does charge a penalty fee if payment is late. I believe it’s around $25 currently.

If a bill goes unpaid for too long, you also risk having your power disconnected. WCMES will provide written notice before shutting off service, but you really want to avoid getting to that point.

I recommend signing up for email/text alerts through the online payment system. That way, you’ll get automated reminders when your bill is coming due so you never miss a payment.

What if You Can’t Pay on Time?

If you’re struggling to pay on time, contact WCMES as soon as possible. They may be able to set up a payment plan or deferred payment arrangement. It’s much better to call and discuss options rather than just letting your account become past due.

You can also reach out to local charities and assistance programs. Some help pay utility bills directly or provide grants to cover past due balances. WCMES can connect you with some options.
