Paying your cell phone bill on time every month is important to keep your service activated. I know sometimes life gets busy or tight on funds, and you may be tempted to delay a payment. But what actually happens if you don’t pay your Boost Mobile bill?
As a Boost Mobile customer myself, I’ve been in this situation before I want to share exactly what goes down when you miss your payment due date, what options you have, and how to avoid service interruptions.
Your Service Will Be Suspended
If you don’t pay your bill by the due date, Boost will suspend your service the next day. This means you won’t have access to talk, text, or data services until you make a payment.
Personally, this happened to me a couple times when I first signed up with Boost Mobile. I remember going into panic mode when I realized I couldn’t make any calls. Especially because I rely on my cell for work.
Having your service cut off without warning is a bummer. But Boost does give you a pretty long grace period to make a payment before they cancel your account completely.
You Have 90 Days To Pay
Even if your service gets suspended for nonpayment, Boost gives you 90 full days to pay your outstanding balance. During this time, your account remains active in their system.
You just need to pay the past due amount to have your service restored. In my experience, it starts working again within an hour once the payment processes.
This grace period is much more generous than other prepaid carriers like Metro and Cricket. They’ll typically only give you 30 days max to pay up before permanently disconnecting your line.
So if you miss a payment with Boost, you still have 3 months before it’s game over. Just make sure to pay the past due amount as soon as possible to get your service back up and running.
Your Number Will Be Lost After 90 Days
Okay, this is where things get real. If you don’t eventually pay your outstanding balance within 90 days, Boost Mobile will cancel your account.
When this happens, you lose your phone number and any remaining account balance permanently. And there’s no getting it back.
Trust me, I learned this the hard way. Early on, I missed a few too many payments and hit the 90-day mark. I didn’t realize they had already cancelled me until I tried to login to pay my past due amount.
Losing your number is a major hassle when it’s tied to important accounts and contacts. You have to go through and update everywhere that has your cell listed. And good luck getting back the remaining balance that got wiped out!
So if making a late payment is unavoidable, just be sure to pay the past due amount within 90 days. This will keep your account active and number safe.
Payment Options with Boost Mobile
If your service does get temporarily suspended for nonpayment, you have several ways to pay your bill and have service restored quickly:
-
Pay online – Login to your account on BoostMobile.com or in the BoostOne app and make a payment by card or PayPal.
-
Pay by phone – Call 833-50-BOOST (833-502-6678) and make a payment through the automated system.
-
Pay in person – Visit any Boost Mobile store and pay your bill in cash.
-
Pay on your phone – Dial 233 from your Boost phone and follow prompts to make a payment.
-
AutoPay – Set up recurring automatic payments from a card each month to avoid issues.
I always keep my Boost account login handy so I can quickly jump online and make a payment if needed. But paying in person or on the phone are convenient backups when I’m out and about.
Tips to Avoid Service Interruptions
Making a late payment and losing service, even temporarily, is a big inconvenience. Here are my top 7 tips to help avoid issues with paying your Boost Mobile bill:
-
Activate AutoPay – Set up automatic monthly payments from a debit/credit card or PayPal to have funds drafted on your due date. This way your payment is always on time without you having to think about it.
-
Get payment reminders – Boost can send you email and/or text alerts a few days before your bill is due as a reminder to pay.
-
Pay early – Don’t wait until the due date. Make your payment a few days early each month.
-
Know your due date – Mark it on your calendar so it doesn’t sneak up on you. Your bill is due the same date each month.
-
Monitor your balance – Check your account regularly to see your balance and upcoming due date.
-
Keep backup payment methods on your account – Debit/credit cards, PayPal, etc. That way you have multiple options to quickly make a payment if needed.
-
Reach out for help – If you’ll be late making a payment, contact Boost ASAP to see if they can offer any assistance.
What If I Need More Time To Pay?
If you just need some extra time to pay your bill, Boost Mobile does have a couple options:
Payment Arrangement
You can call Boost customer service at 833-50-BOOST and ask about setting up a payment arrangement. This allows you to pay past your due date without suspension.
Just be aware that a down payment may be required upfront, and Boost will charge a $5 fee each month for the payment arrangement.
Account Support Program
If you qualify based on low income, Boost offers an Account Support Program that gives you 60 extra days past your due date to pay before suspension.
To enroll, you need to provide documents proving eligibility such as Medicaid/SNAP benefits. There is no fee for this extension program.
Don’t Let Your Service Get Interrupted
Losing your cell phone service — even just temporarily — can be a major disruption. Now you know exactly what happens if you miss paying your Boost Mobile bill.
Be sure to pay your bill in full and on time each month. But if you do end up late with a payment, act quickly to get your account back in good standing. Just make sure to pay within 90 days to avoid permanent disconnection.
