Paying your utility bill on time each month is an important part of being a responsible homeowner or renter. However we all lead busy lives and sometimes that PSEG bill can sneak up on us. Thankfully, PSEG offers numerous quick and easy ways to pay your bill so you never have to worry about missing a payment. In this article I’ll go over the various methods PSEG offers New Jersey customers to pay their electric and gas bills conveniently.
Pay Online Through My Account
The easiest way to pay your PSEG bill is through the My Account portal on psegcom You can either log in to your existing account or quickly create a new one. Once logged in, you can view your current balance and due date. Then with just a few clicks you can make a payment from your bank account or with a credit/debit card. Paying from your checking or savings account is free. Credit and debit payments incur a small processing fee.
Making payments through My Account allows you to:
- Pay 24/7 at your convenience
- Avoid late fees by scheduling future payments
- Store payment methods for quick checkout
I personally love the convenience of paying through My Account. I have my checking account linked and can easily pay my bill any time before the due date.
Pay Through Your Bank
Another way to pay online is through your own bank’s bill pay system. Most banks these days allow you to add billers like PSEG and schedule one-time or recurring payments. The payment is then sent electronically or via mailed check.
Double check with your bank, but bill pay through your bank account is usually free. It’s a great option if you already use your bank’s bill pay for other bills.
Pay via the PSEG Mobile App
Today we all have smartphones, so downloading the PSEG app provides another easy way to pay your bill on the go. You can quickly make a same day payment or schedule future payments all through the app.
As with My Account, you can securely store bank accounts or credit/debit cards in the app for easy checkout. Paying from your bank account is free while credit/debit incurs a small fee.
Pay by Text
If you want the absolute easiest way to pay your PSEG bill, you can’t beat the text pay option. Here’s all you need to do:
-
Register your mobile number in My Account under MyAlerts.
-
Have a bank account stored in your profile.
-
Text “PAY” to 4PSEG (47734) anytime you want to make a payment.
You’ll receive a text confirming the amount, and it will be immediately debited from your linked bank account. It’s free and only takes seconds to send the text. Just make sure to send the text before your bill’s due date to avoid late fees.
Pay by Phone
Another way to pay your bill without logging in to anything is calling PSEG directly. You can make payments over the phone using either your bank account or credit/debit card.
To pay by bank account, call 1-800-553-7734. This automated system is free to use.
To pay by credit/debit card, call 1-833-277-8710. Keep in mind these payments incur a processing fee.
Pay by Mail
If you prefer sticking to the old school way of mailing a check, you can certainly still do that. Just make your check or money order payable to:
PSE&G
P.O. Box 14444
New Brunswick, NJ 08906
Be sure to mail it a few days before your due date to ensure it arrives on time. And always include your full account number on the check or an attached payment stub.
Pay in Person
Sometimes it’s nice to hand deliver your payment to an actual human. PSEG offers two ways to pay your bill in person:
PSEG Customer Service Centers
PSEG has numerous customer service centers located throughout their New Jersey service area. You can walk in and pay your bill by cash, check or money order. Center staff are available to answer any billing questions you may have.
Find your nearest PSEG customer service center location on their website.
Western Union
You can also pay your PSEG bill in cash at any Western Union location for a small $1.50 convenience fee. Just bring your current bill that has the account number. Over 4,000 Western Union spots across NJ accept PSEG payments.
Enroll in the Equal Payment Plan
PSEG’s Equal Payment Plan (EPP) allows you to pay the same “equal” amount each month based on your previous year’s usage. This helps avoid significant seasonal spikes in your electric and gas bills.
Every 6 months they analyze your actual usage and adjust your payment if needed. At the end of the 12-month cycle any overages or credits are reconciled.
The EPP makes budgeting much easier when your bill stays predictable all year long. Call PSEG customer service to enroll.
Set Up Auto Bill Pay
For complete bill paying convenience, sign up for PSEG’s automatic bill pay program. This authorizes PSEG to automatically withdraw your monthly payment from your bank account on the due date.
You never have to worry about missing a payment or mailing checks. Auto bill pay is free and one of the easiest ways to manage your PSEG bills.
Apply for Payment Assistance
If you’re struggling to keep up with your PSEG bills, be sure to see if you qualify for any financial assistance programs. PSEG partners with various New Jersey state agencies and nonprofit organizations to help customers in need get utility payment relief.
Some of the assistance programs include:
- Universal Service Fund – Offers bill credits to lower-income households
- Payment Assistance for Gas and Electric (PAGE) – Helps families and individuals afford their gas and electric bills
- New Jersey SHARES – Provides grants to pay energy bills through donations
- LIHEAP – Federally funded Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program
Go Paperless
Sign up to receive paperless billing and do your part for the environment. With paperless billing, PSEG will email you a monthly statement that you can view digitally instead of receiving a mailed paper bill.
You’ll get convenient 24/7 access to your account online and can make payments through My Account. Going paperless also helps reduce clutter.
As you can see, PSEG offers numerous options for quick and easy bill payment to fit anyone’s needs. Whether you prefer paying online, on your phone, by mail, or in person, PSEG has you covered. I recommend enrolling in auto bill pay or their Equal Payment Plan to make bill management completely stress-free all year round.
